Whyte wins Asham Under 17 Slam at Lockerbie

The  Asham Under 17 Slam was held last weekend at Lockerbie Ice Rink from 27th to 28th September. This national competition attracted 24 teams of young curlers from all over Scotland and was sponsored locally by McJerrow & Stevenson, Sport & Trophy Centre and Lockerbie & District Rotary Club.
In the High Road Semi-Final Team MacDiarmid overcame Team Cormack with a score of 7-2 to secure their way to the final, while Team Whyte, prevailed over Team Carson in a close fought 3-2 win. In the Low Road Semi-Final Team Gilmore secured a 6-1 win against Team Aitken and Team MacNay triumphed over Waterfront 1 with a convincing 10-2 scorline.
Winners of the High Road and the JEM Stevenson Trophy was Ross Whyte’s rink of Kerr Sands, Callum Kinnear and Euan Kyle who beat Euan McDiarmid’s rink of Drew Thomson, Bruce Keillor and Ross Cormack. Whyte got off to a perfect start in the High Road Final taking a three in the first and moved further ahead in the third take a two, after MacDiarmid took a one in the second, to move into the lead with a score of 5-1. MacDiarmid did try to find their way back to the game but it finished 6-3 and secured Team Whyte the first of the Asham Under 17 Slams.
Asham U17 (Low Road Winners 2014)The Low Road winners of the Lockerbie & District Rotary Club Shield, were Ryan McCormack, Alistair Middleton, Angus Bryce and Angus Naysmith who beat Andrew Gilmore, Blair Haswell, Callum McQuillan and Katie McMillan, after beating team gilmore 8-3 in the Low Road Final.
The winners of the High Road were presented with the JEM Stevenson Trophy and prizes by Sue Stevenson and Gordon Dinwoodie.  The winners of the Low Road were presented with the Rotary Shield and prizes by Marion Murdoch.
