Weekend Preview: 22nd – 25th September

This weekend, six of the eight teams on the World Class Curling Programme will compete at the Radisson Blu Oslo Cup at the Snarøya Curling Club.

In the men’s competition, the teams skipped by Tom Brewster, David Edwards, Logan Gray and Jay McWilliam will all compete in the strong 25 team line-up including Niklas Edin of Sweden and the Norwegian favourites skipped by Thomas Ulsrud. The competition will be played in five sections of five teams with the games already getting underway on Thursday (today).

Both Sarah Reid and Eve Muirhead’s ladies teams will compete in the Women’s competition which will follow the same format. The women’s side of the competition is also packed with experienced sides with 2011 World Women’s Champion Anette Norberg, Mirjam Ott and Jennifer Jones all travelling to compete in the first European event of the season on the World Curling Tour.

Team Murdoch will compete in their second event in Canada this weekend, at the Point Optical Curling Classic in Saskatoon. Starting on Friday at 1pm local time (8pm GMT) the Murdoch foursome will be chasing the $15,000 top prize but will be faced with opposition from some of the top teams if they are to be triumphant.  The competition is played as a triple knockout and Murdoch will take on Team Tselousov of Russia in their first game.

The first Royal Club competition of the season will get underway this weekend at Lockerbie where 16 teams (including boys, girls and mixed teams) will take to the ice. Games will get underway at 9am on Saturday morning with top qualifiers in all four sections progressing to the high road semi-finals and the second qualifiers qualifying for the low road. The final of the Lockerbie Slam will take place at 2pm on Sunday.
