The Scottish Curling Senior Championships get underway tomorrow (Thursday 9th February) at Lanarkshire Ice Rink, with the finals being played on Sunday 12th February.

The Championships are open to curlers over the age of 50 and brings together the best senior teams from across Scotland to compete for the national men’s and women’s senior titles. The winning senior men’s and women’s teams will also earn the right to represent Scotland at the World Senior Curling Championships later this year.

Twelve men’s and twelve women’s teams will contest this year’s championships with both 2016 championship winning teams returning to defend their titles.

Gordon Muirhead’s title holders return to the event which they have been champions of for the last two seasons. They will face stiff opposition in the men’s event with 2015 finalists and five time senior champions Team Prentice aiming to reclaim the title they last won in 2014.

Amongst the women’s field are the current Scottish and World Senior Champions Team Lockhart. Last year was the team’s first season playing together in seniors as Jackie Lockhart joined the team – third player Christine Cannon had previously skipped the team to victory in 2013 and 2014. Also competing are Team Gibb – who became Scottish Senior Champions in 2015.
