16 teams made the journey to Stranraer Ice Rink through some snowy conditions to compete in the second leg of the Asham Under 14 Slam on Saturday.

The viewing area from the bar was packed all day with spectators from near and far coming to watch the junior curlers in action. There was great support from the crowd for the very young Dumfries girls team led by 9 year old Georgie Murray who were delighted to finish with a win in their last game.

James Thomson’s Stirling team had a 5-3 win against Ayr’s mixed team skipped by Logan Middleton to reach their first final. The other Semi-final was a tight affair with James Craik’s team overcoming Kerr Waddell’s team with a 4-3 victory.

Kerr Waddell’s team of Ross Owen, Ann Fleming and Rachel Frame had a strong start in the 3 v 4 playoff and sealed their win by securing a score of 3 in their final end.

James ThomsonThe final saw James Craik’s team of Campbell White, Matthew McKenzie and Angus Bryce dominate early on, scoring 7 shots in the first 2 ends. After a rare miss in the third end, James Thomson’s team took advantage of the opportunity of a draw to an open house to score 3 and close the gap a little. Team Craik kept the final end simple to win 10-3 and secure their second Asham Under 14 Slam event victory of the 2014-15 season.
