There are four strands to the performance pathway of a curler in Scotland - Regional Academy, National Academy, Area Institute of Sport (AIS) and Elite Squad -Scottish Institute of Sport (SIS). The Regional Academy programme supports individual curlers from the age of 14 and up, who show excellence in curling. The programme is delivered via training and support to those who are yet to progress through to the National Academy, Area Institute and Elite Squad - Scottish Institute of Sport. The programme is managed by Rhona Martin, (RCCC - Performance Development Coach) supported by Brad Askew (RCCC Assistant Performance Development Coach.) The funding of this programme is made possible by members of the Regional Academy paying an induction fee as well as the RCCC administering funds. | Click on National Academy for more information. | The new National Academy was created to identify and build a wider base of potential curlers who are capable of challenging for a place in the Elite Squad - Scottish Institute of Sport. The new National Academy seeks to support this by expanding the existing National Junior Squad programme to encompass adult teams as well as junior teams. Athletes/teams selected for the National Academy are fully committed to a 4-8 year programme with the goal of aiming towards selection into the Elite Squad - Scottish Institute of Sport and ultimately the Olympics 2014 and 2018. The National Academy programme supports individuals and curling teams to progress within their ranks, through training camps, team coaching, sports medicine, anti doping, performance analysis, financial support in order to participate in competition at home and away, as well as strength and conditioning assistance. The programme is run by Rhona Martin the RCCC Performance Development Coach supported by Brad Askew (RCCC Assistant Performance Development Coach) and complimented by team coaches, Debbie Knox, Gordon Muirhead, Keith Prentice, Tom Brewster and Russell Keiller. The funding of this programme is made possible by sportscotland with the RCCC administering funds. | Click on AIS for more information. | The Area Institute of Sport is made up of 6 Institutes, Central Scotland, East of Scotland, Grampian, Highland, Tayside and Fife, and West of Scotland. The Area Institute is made available to those who are members of the National Academy and who have met designated targets set whilst being a member of the squad, hence qualifying to be a member of the Area Institute of Sport. The Area Institute programme supports curling teams via, performance lifestyle advice, local supervised training, team coaching, sports medicine, sports science, performance analysis, financial support in order to participate in competitions at home and overseas, expenses, as well as strength and conditioning assistance. The programme is managed by Rhona Martin the RCCC Performance Development Coach and lead curling Area Institute of Sport Manager (AIS) Phil Reid. The Area Institute Managers are, Craig Faill(Central,) Michael Cavanagh (East,) Colin Robertson(Grampian,) Chris Hildrey (Highland,) Catriona Semple (Tayside & Fife,) and Phil Reid (West.) The Area Institute Coaches are, Tom Brewster Snr- Central Scotland, Trevor Dodds and Susan Kesley - East of Scotland, Tom rewster Snr - Grampian, Ross MacDonald - Highland, Sheila Swan - Tayside and Fife and Brad Askew - West of Scotland Institute of Sport. The funding of this programme is made possible by The Scottish Institute of Sport, sportscotland, national governing bodies, and local authorities, Universities, Colleges and corporate supporters. | Click on SIS for more information. | The Scottish Institute of Sport (SIS) provides individual support to Athletes enabling them to reach the highest level of competition. The Scottish Institute of Sport Elite Squad programme supports individuals and teams via specialised individual programmes such as strength and conditioning, performance lifestyle advice, individual supervised training, team coaching, sports medicine, anti doping, sports science, performance analysis, financial support in order to participate in competitions at home and overseas, expenses and funding giving them the platform to excel. The Institute coaches are Derek Brown (National Coach,) assisted by Cate Brewster. Additionally the following teams coaches have been identified to compliment this programme - Brian Binnie, John Dunn, Isobel Hannen, Margaret Richardson, Annie Laird, Bob Kelly and Gordon Muirhead.
