Paralympic Curlers Take Silver & Gold in North America

The selected Paralympic athletes;  Aileen Neilson, Gregor Ewan, Robert McPherson and Tom Killin have just returned from a North American trip that had them play in two separate competitions and a training camp. The team started the trip in Ottawa, Ontario at the Cathy Kerr Memorial Bonspiel and the squad qualified for the final where they played the Canadian Paralympic Team. Unfortunately Team GB came up just a stone away from a gold medal but had reached their 4th championship final in as many events and left Canada with a silver medal in their possession.

They then proceeded to travel 4 hours south to Utica, NY for a 3 days training camp before starting play in the US Open. Once the competition started the team found good form and proceeded to run off 6 straight wins and a berth in another championship final. This time they would play the Russian Paralympic Team and in another tightly contested game it came down to the final stone. This time it was Team GB that came away by stealing a point in the final end to secure the victory and maintaining a successful record of 5 major competitions with a podium place. In what has been a very busy season so far in preparation for the upcoming Paralympic Games, Team GB has been able to maintain a level of consistency with 3 gold and 2 silver medals to show for their efforts. Their final competition, the British Open will take place from January 19-21 in Hamilton and the team are looking forward to competition on their home soil against another strong international field.
