The Royal Caledonian Curling Club (RCCC) is pleased to announce its investment in the Mercure City of Perth Masters to help secure BBC Alba’s first venture into live curling broadcast with the delivery of 11 live games throughout the event at Dewars Centre, Perth from Thursday 7th to Sunday 10th January 2016.
This is the first time in many years curling has been shown live on TV in Scotland and is great news for curling and sports fans across the UK as BBC Alba is widely available via digital services. Capitalising on the opportunity to grow the sport in Scotland and beyond, the RCCC will be showcasing its curling development programme, Try Curling, which will be promoted on the ice and field of play.
Thirty two teams from twelve different countries will be competing for the prize pot of £18,300 at this four day annual men’s event including some of Scotland’s top curlers; current Scottish Champions Team MacDonald, Junior Champions Team Mouat, European representatives Team Smith and Olympic silver medallists Team Murdoch.
Commenting on the Mercure City of Perth Masters, Chair of the Organising Committee, Pete Loudon said, “We are delighted that this event continues to attract a stellar line-up of internationalists making this the biggest curling event to be hosted in Scotland on an annual basis and being televised live by BBC Alba, thanks to the support from The Royal Caledonian Curling Club, will help to elevate the profile of this tournament and the game”.
Bruce Crawford, Chief Executive Officer of the RCCC said, “This is a great opportunity for us to get Try Curling seen on the BBC with great exposure offering 22 hours of live curling across four days. We are delighted to partner with the Mercure City of Perth Masters to bring this high profile Curling Champions Tour event to British screens.”
