RCCC International Representatives Wanted

The Royal Caledonian Curling Club (RCCC) is a member of the World Curling Federation (WCF) which is the International Governing Federation for curling with 53 National Member Associations.  The role of the WCF includes:

  • Governing and representing the international interests of the curling community.
  • Liaison with the International Olympic Committee and International Paralympic Committee.
  • Conducting World/European curling competitions.
  • Formulating the rules and systems of play for WCF approved competitions.
  • Promoting cooperation and mutual understanding amongst Member Associations.

Appointment of RCCC International Reps:

The RCCC is entitled to have four representatives at WCF meetings, these individuals are appointed by and report to the RCCC’s Board of Directors.  The Chief Executive is a fixed appointment and the other three representatives are appointed for an initial period of 3 years, then on a rolling programme to ensure continuity.  RCCC is required to appoint at least one man and one woman.   The RCCC reps meet with the Chairman and President at the International Relations Committee, 2 or 3 times per year, to discuss international issues and how to represent the interests of Scottish curling.  They are also expected to be in touch with competitive curlers.  Expenses for attending overseas meetings are paid by RCCC with support from UK Sport.

Hew Chalmers and Edith Loudon have recently stepped down from being RCCC Reps, so RCCC is currently seeking two new Reps, one must be a woman, to apply see below.

Responsibilities:

  • To attend and contribute to WCF meetings which may take about 5 days per year
  • To attend and contribute to the International Relations Committee of the RCCC
  • To consult with RCCC members on matters of policy relevant to WCF matters
  • To represent the views of the RCCC Board and members at WCF meetings
  • To inform the RCCC Board and staff of WCF issues, developments and decisions taken that may affect Scotland.
  • To contribute to the WCF report to the RCCC’s AGM.
  • To build relationships with representatives from other Member Associations to promote and sustain the position of the RCCC as the ‘mother club of curling.’
  • To play an active part in commissions, working groups or projects as established by WCF.

Requirements of Reps:

To be considered as a Rep, you will need the following:

  • Be a current member of the RCCC
  • Knowledge of the policies/practices/organisation of curling in Scotland
  • Extensive knowledge of international competitions, as a player, coach or official
  • An understanding of issues facing athletes on the pathways to World and European Championship competitions
  • Good communication and presentation skills and the ability to network and influence
  • Credibility as an international ambassador for Scotland with the membership of the RCCC

Applications are now being sought from members of the RCCC.  The application process is straightforward with candidates sending a letter outlining their relevant skills and experience to: Bruce Crawford by 12 noon on Tuesday 6th January 2015.
