By Mike Haggerty The Scottish international curling focus now moves east, with Gangneung in South Korea acting as hosts city to the 2009 Mount Titlis World Women’s Curling Championship. Play starts on Saturday 20th March and Scotland is represented by skip Eve Muirhead, fresh from her hat-trick gold medal triumph at the World Junior Championships in Vancouver. Eve has travelled straight to Gangneung from Vancouver along with coach Isabel Hannan, to meet up with her team of Karen Addison, Rachael Simms and Annie Laird, who triumphed in the Columba Cream Scottish Ladies Championship last month to gain the right to wear Scotland’s blue next week. Completing the playing party will be the highly experienced Jackie Lockhart, who has travelled as fifth player. As usual, play among the twelve teams starts in round-robin format, with the Scots opening against the hosts on Saturday afternoon before playing Italy in their second Saturday game. It is fair to say that Eve was the centre of much attention in Vancouver, with the Canadian media particularly keen to find out about her, so her step-up from junior to open competition will be keenly watched by many. The Royal club website will carry links to the Championship’s site, and there will be the normal international reportage service on each of the Scots’ games.
