Muirhead & Murdoch To Put Tour Challenge To the Test

The first ever GSOC Tour Challenge will be held in Paradise, NL, Canada from 8th to 13th September. The Tour Challenge is one of seven events which comprises the Grand Slam of Curling, a competition which invites some of the biggest names in curling.

The event will feature 30 men’s and 30 women’s teams which will be divided into two tiers, with Tier I featuring the top 15 ranked teams in the world. Scotland’s Team Murdoch and Team Muirhead are both a part of this elite list of athletes, which also includes the likes of Canadian teams Jacobs, Howard, McEwan and Epping, Swiss teams Michel and Da Cruz and Sweden’s Team Edin in the men’s competition. While in the women’s competition features teams such as Canada’s team Jones, Homan and Rocque, Switzerland’s Tirinzoni, Paetz and Feltscher and Russia’s Team Sidorova.

Tier II which also features another 30 men’s and 30 women’s teams, is also featuring a couple of Scottish teams, Team Brewster and Team Smith will both be taking part in the men’s section which features regional teams from across Canada.

Both competitions will be played in a round-robin format with teams being split into three sections of five teams. The winners of the Tier I event will receive invitations to the other new events in the Pinty’s Grand Slam series, the Champions Cup, which will be played later in the year, while the winners of the Tier II event will receive invitations to the following Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling event, the Masters, in Truro, N.S, Canada from Oct. 27 to Nov. 1 2015.

Tier I games begin at 4:30pm (GMT) on Tuesday 8th September, when Team Muirhead take on team Tirinzoni. Team Murdoch get underway on Wednesday morning against Team Edin, the current European and World Champions who defeated Scotland’s Team Brewster last week to take the Baden Masters title. Scotland’s Tier II teams will take to the ice at 10:30 (GMT) on Wednesday 9th September.
