Lockerbie Ice Rink is delighted to announce that the Lockerbie Olympic Homecoming on Saturday 26 April was a fantastic success.
The day was attended by the Team GB men’s team David Murdoch, Greg Drummond, Scott Andrews, Michael Goodfellow, Tom Brewster and Soren Gran and Team GB women’s team of Eve Muirhead, Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams, Claire Hamilton, Lauren Gray and Rhona Howie.
The day kicked off with a fun and insightful Question and Answer session with Lockerbie Young Curlers, in which David Murdoch promised to come and coach the youngsters next season with his Mum Marion. The young curlers of Lockerbie were inspired and elated to have been able to meet their curling heroes at such close proximity.
David Murdoch’s dream of walking down the high street of Lockerbie with his silver medal came true. The two Olympic curling teams walked down the crowd filled streets of Lockerbie before attending a touching and entertaining Civic Reception at Lockerbie Academy.
Hosted by the town of Lockerbie, Lockerbie Ice Rink and Dumfries and Galloway Council, the reception saw the curlers receive a specially written poem, gifts on behalf of Lockerbie Community Council and presented with two plaques for Lockerbie Ice Rink and Stranraer Ice Rink from Dumfries and Galloway Council to honour the achievements of curlers from Dumfries and Galloway.
In the evening, Lockerbie Ice Rink was filled to the brim at a more informal celebration night that was enjoyed by the Lockerbie curling community.
David Murdoch, Anna Sloan, Claire Hamilton and Tom Brewster were all honoured to take part in such a special achievement and were overwhelmed by the support shown to them by the community of Lockerbie.
