Loch Leven Crowned Scottish Province Champions

Loch Leven (Kinross CC) won the Scottish Province Championship which took place at Greenacres Curling Rink this weekend from 16-18 November. Ross McCleary’s team of Craig Gudmundson, Hugh Thomson & Gavin Baird (pictured with RCCC President Bill Duncan) defeated Moray 1 (Nairn CC) Alister Asher, Ross Cope, Ryan Asher & Robbie Cope in the final.

The competition started with a late withdrawal from a Moray due to two unfortunate circumstances. The Semi for the High road matched up Stirlingshire 2 v Loch Leven and Galloway v Moray.

Moray v Galloway: Moray took a big 4 in end one then stole another shot in end two a 2 at 4 and a steal at end five set up the win: 10 : 2. Stirlingshire 2 v Loch Leven: Stirling started with a 2 Loch Leven came back with a 1 in end two. Loch Leven pick up a 4 in end to lead 5 : 3 another 2 in end six set up the win: 9 : 4.

In the Final Loch Leven won the toss and started with a 2 Moray replied with a 2. Loch Leven drew for 3 in end three Moray replied with a good double for 3 in end four. A 2 then a steal of 1 in the next two ends set up the win: 8 : 5. Pictured below: the Runners Up – Robbie Cope, Ryan Asher, Bill Duncan (RCCC President), Alister Asher, Ross Cope.

The Low Road Semis matched up East Lothian v Upper Strathearn and a local derby Central v Stirlingshire 1.

Central v Stirlingshire 1: Central took a 3 in end one Stirling hit back with a 1 then a steal of 1 at ends two & three they did this again in ends five & six.  Central picked up a 2 in end seven. Stirlingshire had a draw for the extra but just went too far: 6 : 5. East Lothian v Upper Strathearn:  East Lothian won by default due to a substitute player from Upper Strathearn playing in wrong position.

In the Low Road Final, Central (Keir CC) of Lee McCleary, Judith McFarlane, Barbara McPake & Eric McKay (pictured left) defeated East Lothian’s (Athelstaneford CC) John Shedden, Robin Aitken, Callum Harvey & Alec Kerr. Central stole a 1 then a 2 to take a 3 shot lead after two ends another steal at 3 set up them up for their 7 – 4 win.
