Kinross Win the Rink Championship 2014

Posted on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 2:38pm

On a bright but breezy Friday the RCCC Rink Championships kicked off at 9.30am on Friday 14th March, 2014. Despite some last minute call offs, after some excellent work by the FIS staff the competition started only one team down. It was clear from outset that it was going to be a tight competition and so it proved to be.
After the round robin stages, played throughout Friday & Saturday, the quarter finals saw rinks from Inverness, Greenacres (2), Forfar (2), Kinross (2) and The Peak emerging. After some excellent curling Inverness 1 played Forfar 1 and Kinross 2 played Greenacres 2 in the semi’s with Forfar 1 skipped by Adrian White and Kinross 2 skipped by Ross McCleary working their way to the final.
In front of a large audience watching a very tight and closely fought game Kinross 2 went into the last end one shot down but with hammer which was used wisely to play a delicate tap back for 2 and the game and title of RCCC Rink Champions 2014.
Well done to all the rinks for making it a highly enjoyable competition with great curling on the ice and fun off it. One of the weekend’s highlights was the toast to all the Team GB curlers as we watched the Team GB Wheelchair curlers win the bronze medal to add to the 2 medals already secured.
Thanks go to the staff and management at Forfar Indoor Sports for hosting a super competition with excellent ice conditions and catering facilities and to RCCC Ladies Junior Vice President Marion Fraser for presenting the trophies. Thanks must also go to the umpires for the long hours they put in keeping everyone in order. Finally many thanks to the competition sponsors for their tremendous support.
