Atholl Cup

An early start on Sunday 21st March 2010 saw two rinks travel to Kinross to play in the Atholl Cup against 37 Club from Edinburgh. We arrived in plenty of time and enjoyed bacon rolls and coffee before the game. The ice was keen and we had two good games in the first session. George Sim, Margaret Hastie, Roger Hoskins and Sheila Watt  were peels going into the last end and managed to win their game by taking a three in the final end. Ormond Smith, Linda Hoskins, Gill Rennie and Maggie Carr had a tough game and didn’t quite get there. We had a brief break for soup and sandwiches and were back on the ice for the second session. George opened with a five and then took a three and romped home to win decisively despite losing a four in the last end. Ormond had a much closer match exchanging ones and twos and peeling going into the last end. It went down to a measure on the last stones and 37 club were unhappy with the first measure and called for a second measure using a different measure! However, they had to concede that Inverness had won by the slightest of margins. That  meant that, with three wins, Inverness had retained the trophy and it travelled North with us once again. We stopped at Bankfoot on the way home for a bite to eat to round off a very pleasant day.
