Fresh from winning Gold at the European Curling Championships in Moscow last week, Eve Muirhead and Head Women’s Coach Rhona Martin took to the ice today at George Square to promote Glasgow’s Hogmanayday celebrations.
As previously noted, Glasgow Life has teamed up with the Royal Club to offer Try Curling sessions on Hogmanayday. From 12 noon until 10pm children and adults alike will be able to join Eve and Rhona for a special one-off curling taster session for those up for the challenge.
Leader of Glasgow City Council, Councillor Gordon Matheson, said: “Glasgow Loves Hogmanayday is a great way for everyone to celebrate the end of the year and look forward to all that 2012 promises. This year’s traditional theme will see young and old enjoy superb music, ceilidh dancing and a range of family friendly activities, such as curling on the ever popular ice rink. It promises to be a sensational way to see out 2011.”
European Curling Champion Eve Muirhead said: “It is great to be back curling on home soil. I am delighted to become involved in Glasgow’s Hogmanayday celebrations. I think it’s wonderful; everyone has the chance to try one of Scotland’s national sports on the day of one of Scotland’s biggest parties.”
