The Royal Caledonian Curling Club (RCCC) is saddened to announce the death of A. Gifford Rickard, who died on Saturday the 10th September 2016. Gifford was President of the RCCC in 2004/05. He was also a double National Masters Champion in 2008 and 2009. He will be greatly missed.

Gifford had been an active member of RCCC and Denny Curling Club for over 30 years. He was past president and past secretary of the Denny CC and spent a lot of time encouraging and helping club members improve their skill and enjoyment of the game. Gifford “Giff” or “Giffy” had an outgoing personality and loved being in company. He was a great raconteur with a hearty laugh and could tell a good story. A very keen sportsman playing badminton, cycling, hill walking and climbing in his youth and golf and curling taking over later kept him on the go, with his wife Raye. He always put his full energy into all his activities including his year as RCCC President, enjoying visiting many ice rinks, speaking at dinners and meeting curlers from all over Scotland and abroad. He was part of the RCCC touring teams to Switzerland (1998) and Canada (2003) and enjoyed the yearly reunions catching up with his fellow tourists. He will be sadly missed by all his friends and our deepest sympathy is extended to Raye.

The funeral will take place at 1.45 on Wednesday 21st September at Falkirk Crematorium.
