Curling This Weekend: What’s On 29 Nov-2 Dec

Qualifiers for The Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish Women’s Curling Championship will be played out at Dumfries Ice Bowl this weekend. Two sections of four teams will compete on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd December to determine the top two teams in each section who will play at the finals week in February. Among the field are RCCC Performance Squad Teams Vevers (Lorna Vevers pictured right) and Martin, Royal Club Academy Teams Wilson, Aitken, Murray and Baxter and Talent Programme Team Paterson.
The four qualifying teams will join Eve Muirhead, Gail Munro, Hannah Fleming and Jackie Lockhart who gained automatic qualification by reaching last year’s page play offs.
The Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish Curling Championship is the highlight of Scotland’s competitive curling calendar with the best teams competing for the national title. The finals take place at Dewars Centre, Perth, from 11-17 February 2013. The Scottish Women’s Champions will represent Scotland at the World Women’s Curling Championship in Riga, Latvia from 16 – 24 Mar 2013.
World Class Wheelchair Curling Performance Programme Squad members Ian Donaldson, Gregor Ewan, Jim Gault, Aileen Neilson and Tom Killin have embarked on a 15 day trip to compete at the Cathy Kerr International event in Ottawa, Canada (29 Nov – 2 Dec) and the US Open in Utica, USA (7-9 Dec). The team will be accompanied by Tony Zummack, Head Coach Wheelchair Curling, and will play 15 competitive games against the best teams from across Canada, the USA National team and the Korean National team.
The Greenacres leg of the Under 17 Slam runs from Saturday 1st to Sunday 2nd December. The Under 17 event is open to male, female and mixed teams of which there are 24 taking part including Royal Club Academy and Talent Programme athletes.
The Peak at Stirling Sports Village hosts the Stirling Invitational from tomorrow Friday 30th November to Sunday 1st December. This is a Goldline Scottish Curling Tour event featuring a strong field of 24 top teams including RCCC Performance Squads Brewster, Gray, G. Muirhead, K. Smith and G. Hardie and Royal Club Academy Teams Mouat, Young and Taylor.
