Curling this weekend: What’s on 3-6 January

Qualifiers for the Scottish Senior Men’s Championship will be taking place across two venues from Friday 4th to Sunday 6th January. The Scottish Senior Men’s Curling Championship is an annual event open to curlers over the age of 50 with the best teams competing for the national title.
Greenacres Curling Rink will host 18 teams with another 15 competing at Forfar Indoor Sports including that of Keith Prentice’s current Scottish Senior Men’s Champions (pictured).
Both groups will play in three sections with the top two teams in each section qualifying for the finals.
The 2013 Scottish Senior Men’s Curling Championship finals will take place at Lanarkshire Ice Rink, from 7 – 10 Feb 2013. The winning team at this event will represent Scotland at the World Senior Curling Championships in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada from 13 – 20 Apr 2013.
The Scottish Junior Curling Club Challenge takes place at Murrayfield Curling, Edinburgh from Saturday 5th to Sunday 6th January. The Junior Challenge is a junior club competition, played in divisions, with the top team of Division 1 winning the challenge. Each junior club entered is represented by two teams.

Before all this, the Mercure Perth Masters gets underway today, 3rd January, at Dewars Centre, Perth with thirty two teams from thirteen different countries gathering for the first round of games. The field contains some of the world’s very best and thirty one of them will be trying to stop Team McEwen from Manitoba, Canada making it a hat trick of victories.
This event is part of the Curling Champions Tour and runs until Sunday 6th.
