Curling this Weekend: What’s On 22-25 February

Posted on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 3:05pm

On Monday 25th February, Stranraer Ice Rink will host Scotland’s lady curlers at The Henderson Bishop – The Ladies Challenge Trophy.

Having won their way through their local ice rinks, 20 teams will compete across four league sections. Section winners will qualify for the final knock-out stages of The Henderson Bishop Trophy whilst section runners-up will qualify for a concurrent event, The Cherrystone Trophy.

Stranraer’s Gail Munro (pictured) skipped her team to victory in the 2012 event in Inverness so will be looking to continue form on home ice this year. The Henderson Bishop blends four days of competitive curling with a full social programme making it a much anticipated date in the curling calendar.

The competition was last hosted in Stranraer in 2006 and 2003. This year, the ladies will be kept busy on and off the ice with a Quiz night, Fun competitions, Ready Steady Cook Demonstration and of course the Wednesday evening dinner where the draw for the Semi-Finals is made and the evening will conclude with entertainment hosted by Stranraer Ice Rink Curling Club Committee and Ladies Committee and rounded off with music. All of this will take place within North West Castle Hotel where the curling rink is also located.

The event runs until Thursday 28th February.
