European Playdowns: 2012 Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish Curling Championship finalists Eve Muirhead (pictured) and Gail Munro will play the best of 5 game playdowns at Curl Aberdeen this weekend to determine who will represent Scotland at this year’s European Championships in Karlstad, Sweden in December. All games will be 10 ends and a minimum of 6 ends must be completed. The first game will be played at 7.00pm tonight, Friday 19th October, and play will continue until Sunday 21st.
Scotland’s women took European gold for the first time since 1975 last year when Eve Muirhead led her team to victory against Sweden in the 2011 Le Gruyère European Curling Championships in Moscow.
In the Men’s European Championships, Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish Curling Championship winner Tom Brewster and his team will represent Scotland due to the withdrawal of Warwick Smith’s (David Smith Skip) team. Last year David Murdoch’s Scottish men lost a tight second tie-breaker game on the Thursday afternoon which left them fifth overall in the Championship.
