The Le Gruyère European Curling Championships 2012 continue in Karlstad Sweden. Scotland’s men yesterday (Wed 12th) concluded their round-robin programme with an 8-5 win over Hungary thereby finishing in seventh place and securing the country’s slot at this season’s world championship. With a clinical performance this morning (Thur 14th), particularly in the second half, Scotland’s women beat Russia by 6-5 in their final round-robin game to finish second overall and seal a place in Friday afternoon’s Page 1-2 play-off, where they will face table-topping Sweden. The European Championships run until Saturday 15th.

The Scottish Mixed Doubles Championship takes place at Dewars Centre, Perth this weekend from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 December. 16 teams, each comprising one male and one female curler, will compete in four sections of four with the top two teams in each section qualifying for the quarter finals. These include last year’s winners Lee McCleary and Judith McFarlane (pictured at this year’s World Mixed Doubles Championship) who will play in Section A. Games start from Friday 14 at 7pm.
The winning team at this year’s Scottish Mixed Doubles will represent Scotland at the World Mixed Doubles Championship in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada from 13-20 April 2013.

It’s the turn of Lanarkshire Ice Rink in Hamilton to host the Under 17 Slam over the weekend from Saturday 15 to Sunday 16 December. The Under 17 event is open to male, female and mixed teams of which there are 24 taking part.
