Curling This Weekend: What’s On 11-13th October

Team Muirhead(Eve Muirhead, Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams and Claire Hamilton) will be competing in the Curlers Corner Autumn Gold Curling Classic, held in Calgary, Canada from the 11th – 14th October. The event which marks the first women’s Grand Slam of the 2013-14 World Curling Tour sees 32 teams taking part in the competition which will be held in a triple knockout format.

The next leg of the Goldline Scottish Curling Tour continues this weekend, Friday 11th to Sunday 13th October, with The Forfar Open & The Women’s Open. There are eleven men’s teams taking part over two sections, as well as five women’s teams in a third section. For the ladies Team Barr return again this year hoping to defend their title. The competition will be played in a round-robin format with finals taking place on Sunday 13th October.

The first Asham Under 14 Slam event of the season will be held at Intu Braehead on Sunday. 16 teams (boys, girls and mixed) will play 3 x 4 end games to determine the qualifiers for the semi-finals. There are a few new line-ups due to players ageing out, and this event will see Alastair Torrance (Lanarkshire) taking on a skip role as well as Beth Farmer (Kinross) with her all girls team. For those not qualifying for the semi-finals, there will be an Individual Challenge with a twist!

Stranraer Ice Rink will host The Scottish Curling Senior Mixed Championship from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th October. This is an RCCC event competed for by teams of two men and two women playing in alternate positions. 16 teams will be competing including 2012 winners from Kinross skipped by David Clydesdale and runner up Trevor Dodd’s who will be hoping to go one better this year.

The RCCC ladies Performance Teams, Fleming (Hannah Fleming, Lauren Gray, Jennifer Dodds, Alice Spence) and Vevers (Lorna Vevers, Sarah Rei, Rebecca Kesley, Rachel Hannen, ,) will be at the Women’s Masters Basel from the 11th-13th October. There are 24 teams taking part in the competition which will take a triple-knock-out format.
