Curling This Weekend: From 5th December

The Scottish Curling Junior Men’s Championship Qualifiers will take place at Dewars Centre, Perth from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th December. The Scottish Junior Championships is an annual event open to curlers under the age of 21 with the best teams competing for the national Men’s and Women’s junior titles. There are 18 junior men’s teams taking part in the competition which will see the top nine teams qualify for the Scottish Curling Junior Men’s Championship 2014 (the top three from each section). Kyle Waddell and Cameron Smith, members of the team which have won the competition for the last three year’s running along with Kyle Smith and Thomas Muirhead, will again be taking part in the competition, with new teammates Callum Kinnear and Craig Waddell.

The Double Rink Championship will take place at Stranraer Ice Rink from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th December. The competition is open to RCCC affiliated clubs, each which will be represented by two teams. The event will host 16 teams from 8 clubs split over 2 sections, with the top teams qualifying for the knock out stages. Competing in this year’s competition are Police Scotland, Border, Currie and Balerno, Reform, Musketeers, Forfar, Kilsyth and Dalry Union.

Paralympic Winter Games 2014, Sochi, Russia, CurlingTeam Scotland (Aileen Neilson, Gregor Ewan, Robert McPherson, Jim Gault and Angie Malone) continue their tour of North America in Utica, New York, USA this weekend as they play the US Open International Wheelchair Bonspiel. Scotland have enjoyed a successful campaign so far having finished runners up to Russia in both of the competitions in tour so far. With both teams competing again in Utika, it could be a case of third time lucky should both of the teams to qualify for the finals. The competition is set to take place from Friday 5th December to Sunday 7th December.
