Curling this weekend: from 2nd February

The National Masters Curling Championships get under way at Greenacres tomorrow, and will run from 2nd – 5th February. The National Masters is an annual event open to curlers over the age of 60 bringing together the best teams from across Scotland to compete for the national men’s and women’s masters titles.

The Goldline Scottish Curling Tour continues this weekend from 3rd – 5th February, with the Aberdeen City Open. There are 18 teams taking part in the competition, split into two sections. Games begin at 12:30pm on Friday with the final scheduled at 3pm on Sunday. A dinner and race night are held on the Saturday night.

The Asham Under 17 Slam continues in Perth this weekend. Taking place from 4th – 5th February, this event see’s 24 teams come together for the final Asham Under 17 Slam.
With all the teams currently sitting at the top of the leader board taking part there could be an exciting finale to the Under 17 Slam – Callum Kinnear will be aiming to win the slam once again, however fresh off a strong performance at the Scottish Curling Junior Championships, second-placed Team Craik will do all they can to pip them to the post.
In addition to competition, the players as well as parents and coaches have been invited to a presentation on the topic of ‘Performance Lifestyle’ on the morning of 4 February. They will look to provide guidance about the demands of a performance curling programme and what pathways are available to a curler with regards to combining education and curling.

The 28th Winter Universiade continues in Kazakhstan, where the British teams are doing well so far – both teams are sitting top of the tables, with the men undefeated and the women sitting on four wins from five games. Round Robin play concludes on Saturday 4th February, with gold medal games taking place on Tuesday 7th.
