Curling This Weekend: From 27th February

The Rink Championship will be held at Forfar Indoor Sports from Friday 27th February to Sunday 1st March. The championship is one of the biggest RCCC competitions with over 100 teams taking part, as each rink holds its own qualification events.  In total 24 clubs, from 14 rinks,  from all over Scotland have qualified to compete in Forfar, representing their local rink, with teams being split into four sections of six. The championship will be played in around robin-format with the top two teams from each section progressing to the Quarter Finals.  The Final is scheduled for 3pm of Sunday 1st March.

Asham U17 WebThe final and deciding Asham Under 17 Slam of the season will be held at the Dewars Centre, Perth from Saturday 28th February to Sunday 1st March. The Asham Under 17 Slam comprises five events with points being awarded at each event. The top three results will be accumulated to determine the overall winner and a winning girls team. Team Whyte currently top of the junior men’s leaderboard with 60 points, having won two Asham Under 17 Slam events this season but Team McNay on 55 points have also won an event of their own, meaning that if they win the competition they could still claim the junior men’s Asham Under 17 Slam title. Team Aitken are currently at the top of the junior women’s leaderboard with 30 points, but Team MacDonald and  Team Kerr are not far behind on 27 points and 21 points respectively With everything still to play for it all rests on the results from this weekend’s event. The winner of the competition will receive the coveted top prize of secured places at the World Curling Federation Camp in Fussen, Germany.

World Juniors smThis season’s World Junior Curling Championships get underway on Saturday 28th February, with the Scottish Curling Junior Champions, led by Gina Aitken and Bruce Mouat (pictured), representing Scotland.
