Curling this Weekend: from 26th October

The first Grand Slam of Curling (GSOC) event of the 2016/17 season is taking place in Canada, at the Pason Centennial Arena, Okotoks this weekend. Games at the Masters started on Tuesday 25th October but the Scots aren’t in action until today, with Muirhead taking on Kim and an all-Scotland Smith v Murdoch (pictured right) game, both starting at 4pm BST.
There’s a strong field at this event, with three-time winner of the Masters Rachel Homan taking part in the women’s section, alongside 2015/16 Canadian Champion Chelsea Carey. The men’s section see’s the 2015/16 European Curling Champions Team Edin take on Canadian Team Jacobs in their first game, while Masters defending champion Mike McEwen will be hoping for an early win against team Morris.

The Scottish Province Championship will be held at Greenacres Curling Rink from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th October. The Scottish Province Championship is competed for by club teams representing their local Province. Each Province holds its own qualifying competition and the winners represent their local province at the Championship.

The First CCT Mixed Doubles Cup Geising from 28th – 30th October and is part of the Curling Champions Tour CCT. The tournament has a full entry of 20 teams – including Scottish Team Aitken/Mouat. The pair came second at the Austrian Cup last weekend, so will be hoping to do one better in Germany!

The second Asham Under 17 Slam of the season is taking place 29th-30th October, this leg of the event is held at Lanarkshire Ice Rink. The Asham Under 17 Slam comprises five events with points being awarded at each event. The top three results will be accumulated to determine the winner who will receive the coveted top prize of secured places at the World Curling Federation Camp in Fussen, Germany.
The RCCC will be holding a number of development seminars for junior curlers and parents throughout the Asham Under 17 Slam events, this weekend it’s a seminar for Parents, Coaches and Club Co-ordinators. This seminar will be delivered by Sports Scotland on Saturday 29th October at 10.45 and 12.30pm. We would encourage all parents, coaches, and club co-ordinators to attend.
