Curling This Weekend: From 26th November

The next stage of the European Junior Curling Tour continues in Thun, Switzerland from Thursday 26th November. Scotland’s RCCC Academy teams Murray (Katie Murray, Rebecca Morrison, Hailey Duff, Mili Smith) and Bryce (Cameron Bryce, Zack Stewart, Fraser Kingan, Frazer Shaw) will all be attending the event which will continue until Sunday 29th November. Katie’s first game is at 15.00 CET against Estonia, while Cameron’s first game at 17.15 is against Switzerland’s Yannick Schwaller, 2014 World Junior Men’s Champions and 2015 World Junior men’s runner-up. Yannick will also be representing Switzerland at the World Juniors again in 2016. There are junior teams competing from all over Europe, including Norway, Denmark, Italy, Russia and Sweden.

_70P3908Lauren Gray’s team (Lauren Gray, Jennifer Dodds, Vicky Wright and Mairi Baird) are continuing their time in Canada with another World Curling Tour event, The Boundary Ford Classic, in which they are the only international entry. There are eighteen entries in the competition with eight qualifiers and it’s played in a triple knockout format. Lauren will want to build on her performance at the Dave Jones Northbridge Mayflower Cashspiel, where her team managed to progress to the semi-finals before being knocked out by Jill Brothers team – who went on to win the competition.

hardieThe Dumfries Senior Open takes place at the Ice Bowl this weekend, from Friday 27th until Sunday 29th. There are eight teams competing in the four game schenkle, with the top two progressing straight to the semis, while the next four ranked teams will play in the quarter-finals to determine the other two semi-final teams.

Asham Logo Slam U17The Baljaffray Trophy, the third Asham Under 17 Slam of the season, will be held at Greenacres Curling Rink from Saturday 28th to Sunday 29th November. There are six sections of round robin play before top teams go on to compete for a place in the High Road and Low Road finals. The Asham Under 17 Slam comprises five events with points being awarded at each event. The top three results will be accumulated to determine the winner who will receive the much sought-after top prize of places at the World Curling Federation Camp in Fussen, Germany. Team Kinnear are currently leading the competition, sitting top of the leaderboard with 42 points.
