Curling This Weekend: From 10th October

The next stage of the European Junior Curling Tour, part of the Curling Champions Tour, continues with the Live Channel Cup from the 10th to 12th October in Harnösand, Sweden. Scottish teams Taylor (Stuart Taylor, Ross Fraser, Bobby Lammie, Gregor Cannon and Alastair Schreiber) and Team Aitken (Gina Aitken, Naomi Brown, Rowena Kerr and Rachael Hannen) are both taking part in the competition. There will be 12 men’s and 9 women’s teams competing at the event. Team Aitken will hope to continue their fine form after winning the first EJCT at Braehead last month.

Scottish Curling Senior Mixed Championship - credit Gail MunroThe Scottish Curling Senior Mixed Championship  takes place at Stranraer Ice Rink from the 10th to 12th October. The Scottish Curling Senior Mixed Championship is the first RCCC national championship of the season and is open to curlers 50 years and over. Teams consist of two males and two females playing in alternate positions.

4d603b5dcdThis year’s Women’s Masters Basel, part of the Curling Champions Tour, takes place at the CRB Curlingzentrum Region Basel, Arlesheim, from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th October. Scotland’s Team Muirhead (Eve Muirhead, Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams and Sarah Reid) will be taking part in the competition. Other notable competitors include World Women’s Curling Champions, Swiss Team Feltscher, World Women’s Curling Championship bronze medalists Team Sidorova of Russia and winners of last year’s competition Team Tirinzoni also of Switzerland. Overall there will be 24 teams taking part in the competition which will be played in a triple knock-out system.

The National Super League Finals are taking place this weekend at Forfar Indoor Sports. There will be ten teams taking part in the competition split over two sections of five. The competition will take a round-robin format with the top two teams from each sections going on to the Semi-Finals. The first draw kicks off at 7:30 on Friday 10th October, with the Final scheduled for Sunday 12th October.

Asham U14 WebThe first of the Asham Under 14 Slams takes place at Curl Aberdeen on Saturday 11th October. The Asham Under 14 Slam was established to satisfy the demand from the growing number of junior curlers in Scotland to offer this age group an incentive to compete regularly and an opportunity for success. This is one of three, one-day, Asham Under 14 Slam events this season with points being awarded at each. The top two results will be accumulated to determine the overall Slam Winner.
