Curling This Weekend, 6th December to 8th December

The Scottish Curling Junior Men’s and Women’s Championship Qualifiers will be taking part at Dewars Centre, Perth between Friday 6th December and Sunday 8th December. The Scottish Junior Championships is an annual event open to curlers under the age of 21 with the best teams competing for the national Men’s and Women’s junior titles.
There are 18 Junior Mens’ teams and 11 Junior Women’s teams taking part in the competition, which will see the top 9 Junior Men’s teams qualify for the Scottish Curling Junior Men’s Championship 2014 (the top three from each section) and 9 Junior Women’s teams teams qualify for the Scottish Curling Junior Women’s Championship 2014 (the top four from each section and the 5th place teams will play an eliminator for the final place).
Returning amongst the men’s teams are the current Scottish Junior Men’s Champions Kyle Smith, Thomas Muirhead, Kyle Waddell, and Cameron Smith who also went on to claim the World Junior Championship title in Sochi, Russia in March this year (pictured – Photo: ©WCF/Richard Gray 2013).
The Scottish Curling Junior Championships 2014 will take place at Curl Aberdeen from Tuesday 21st to Sunday 26th January 2014

The Double Rink Championship kicks off on Friday 6th December at Stranraer Ice Rink. The Double Rink is a local club competition consisting of two teams from each club playing against one another to generate a combined score based on points, ends and shots. There will be sixteen teams taking part in the competition which runs until Sunday 8th December. Teams will be hoping that they can put a stop to the Musketeers’ winning ways, who have claimed the title for the last three years running (pictured left)

The US Open International Wheelchair Bonspiel gets underway in Utica, NY, USA from Friday 6th December to Sunday 8th December. Team Scotland (Aileen Neilson, Gregor Ewan, Robert McPherson and Tom Killin) will be competing along with 12 other teams including teams from USA, Canada and South Korea. The competition will be played in a round robin format. Team Scotland will be hoping to improve on last year’s result when they claimed bronze at the event.
