Curling This Weekend 21st to 23rd March

The Scottish Curling Pairs Championship gets underway at Stranraer Ice Rink this weekend from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd March. There are 24 teams taking part in the competition from 19 different ice rinks from across Scotland. Section winners and runners-up will qualify for the final knock-out stages. All games are 6 ends.
Last year’s winners from Kinross, Ross McCleary and Craig Gudmundsson will be hoping for continued success in the competition this year. Both players were part of the team which recently won the Rink Championship at Forfar Indoor Sports.

Scottish PairsPlay gets underway at 10:00am on Friday 21st March with the quarters, semis and final being played out on Sunday 23rd at 10:00am, 12:30pm and 3:00pm respectively.

Funspiel Under 13 Winners DumfriesThe Funspiel Finals take place on Sunday 23rd March at Braehead Curling. The Funspiel Finals is competed for by 1 Representative Team from each region, in the under 13 and under 15 age group. Each team will play a round-robin consisting of 3 x 4 end games to determine the overall winner of each age group. Prizes will be presented to the winning teams in each age category.

In addition to the competition a fun ‘Hotshots’ event will take place in which each team member will attempt a ‘Draw shot’ and ‘Strike Out’ challenge. Each team will select a member of their team to play a ‘Golden Draw Shot’ for bonus points and another team member to play a ‘Golden Strike Out’ for bonus points. Individual scores will be combined to give the team total and there will be prizes for the winning teams in each age category.

Play will begin at 11:00am on Sunday 23rd March with the hotshots taking place at 3:30pm.

The round-robin stages are still in progress until Friday when the knock-out stages will begin.
