The picture to the right depicts the new coaching pathway and levels of qualification for coaching Curling. In addition, we have various specialised modules for each level as well as Coach Assessor Awards and Tutor training . All courses are standardised throughout the country.
Assistant Coach
Assistant Coach (formally Level A), is the first level coaching qualification. An introduction to curling coaching, The Assistant Coach qualification provides anyone, whatever their curling experience, with sufficient knowledge and skills to assist Technical Coaches effectively, working mainly with beginners.
A short theory course provides the information required and concludes with a written assessment. A further ten hours ice time, shadowing a qualified technical coach, and completion of an enhanced disclosure check is required for accreditation.

Technical Coach
The Technical Coach Course (formally Level B), is the second level for coaches who wish to progress their qualification from an Assistant Coach and who have completed a minimum of one year’s coaching following their Assistant qualification. A Technical Coach working with individuals will introduce basics of the game ia a safe and enjoyable manner, improve basic playing skills and improve basic principles of play.
The Curling Level 2 Technical Coach Coaching Qualification is made up of a number of elements:
· An on course learning programme made up of 18 hours contact time.
· A period of self directed study both pre-course (3 hours) and after the workshop programme.
The second phase involves a period of applied practice during which the coach
· will have the opportunity to apply their learning and practise their coaching in the coaching environment (20 hours). Evidence of this learning will be housed in their coaching logbook.
· An observed practical coaching assessment and professional discussion with an accredited assessor (4 hours).
