Coaches Share Knowledge to Prepare for New Season

Posted on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 10:15am

The Royal Caledonian Curling Club presented its most comprehensive Coach Upskilling and Knowledge Share day ever at The Peak, Stirling, on Saturday 25th August.

The event was organised to ensure that, pre-season, coaches of all levels who will be actively delivering Royal Club Academy (RCA) and Royal Club Talent Programme ice sessions or coaching RCA Teams over the 2012-13 season have as much up to date knowledge of Performance Level expectations, standards and training methods as possible.

Led by Brad, every aspect of training a Development level athlete was covered from technique of delivery and sweeping to testing, practice routines, mindset, ice knowledge, umpiring, game stats and fitness.

The goal was to ensure that each and every coach understand the expectations and that they feel confident in what they are delivering to the athletes in that programme. It also aimed to ensure that the most up to date information is fed back to their home rinks and to their local Junior Programmes.

National Coaches and High Performance Coaches presented as well as speakers from Sportscotland, the World Curling Federation, RCCC and Ice makers.

The RCA Technical, RCA Team and Talent Programme Coaches were on ice the following day for the RCA pre season Squad Day. All eight RCA Gold and Silver Teams were involved in a full day of training, testing and presentations on and off ice at The Peak. This gave all coaches a chance to put their new knowledge into immediate use in a practical coaching environment.

Positive comments and feedback were received. – A sample of the comments, with some photos from the day, are included below:
