British Curlers Set For Winter Universiade 2015

Great Britain’s selected curlers are set for the Winter Universiade, the biggest global winter multi-sport event for students, which will kick off in Granada, Spain on Wednesday 4th February. Representing Great Britain are:
Heather Morton – Queen Margaret University
Hazel Smith – SRUC
Rachel Halliday – University of Strathclyde
Laura Ritchie – SRUC
Angharad Ward – Durham
The first curling games are scheduled to take place on Thursday 5th February. Great Britain’s women will be the first in action at 9:00 (CET), going up against Norway while the men get underway at 14:00 (CET) to take on the Czech Republic.
Great Britain has had significant success in the event over the last few years with Anna Sloan, Lauren Gray, Vicki Adams, Sarah Macintyre and Claire Hamilton taking gold back in 2011 and Thomas Muirhead (pictured), Derrick Sloan, Cammy Smith, Kyle Smith and Kyle Waddell taking silver in 2013.
More than 2,500 athletes will compete at the event from more than 50 countries, supported by between 1,500 and 3,000 volunteers. The city of Granada will host the curling, ice hockey, figure skating and short track events, with the additional events of alpine skiing, freestyle skiing and snowboarding being held in nearby Sierra Nevada mountains.
