Who We Are

Nairn Curling Club - Who we are and What we do

Nairn had a curling club in 1854, but it disappeared in 1865. The present club was reformed in 1907 and re-admitted to the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in 1908. Four rinks were constructed shortly afterwards in a corner of the ‘Farmer’s Field’, and curling was mostly outdoor - courtesy of Jack Frost - until indoor ice-rinks were opened in Aviemore in 1966 and in Inverness shortly after.

Currently there is a full programme of club activities every winter, mostly at the Inverness and Elgin Ice Rinks. Ten teams drawn from club members compete in a league throughout the season for the Sandy Gunn Shield. The Top Four teams then compete for the Millennium Trophy. A knock-out tournament is held for the Park Cup. A 'singles' tournsament is played for The Match Cup.  Once a year, selected non-skips have a chance to skip a rink in the bonspeil for the David Brown Jubilee Shield. The Kettle is awarded to the winner of the Annual Points competition.

In the Moray Province competitions, the club has teams competing, including eight teams in the West Division Leagues. RCCC and other open competitions are entered regularly.

Social events include the famous annual Nairn Dinner and Court (made curlers only!) which is well attended by clubs from over the North of Scotland. At the season’s end a prize-giving and soiree is held when members have the chance to nominate a winner for The Webster Cap - a sort of Oscar in Reverse! Nairn has a strong golfing heritage, so a golf/curling outing is usually arranged during the summer.

If you require further information on our club, please contact a committee member - details on the About Us page.
