Province Knock Out Winners 2010
Skip - Garek Begg
Third - Eric Peter
Second - Ryan Peters
Lead - Linda Hoskins

On 13/01/2010 Inverness played Hospitals in the Final of the Province Knock out for the Stanley Dennis Salver. Inverness won the toss and then allowed Hospitals to steal a two in the first end! However, they pulled themselves together and took a three in end two. The battle was on. Hospitals took a two in end three and Inverness responded with a two in end four. With some superb curling Andy Wood for hospitals could only manage to draw to take a one in end five to save the end. Inverness took a two in end six and with time running out Andy Wood needed a two to peel in end seven to win on ends. Playing tactically, Linda was asked to throw her stones through and Muriel Cockburn played her stones just in front of the house. Ryan played a lovely draw round the guards and hospitals struggled for the rest of the end. Putting up good guards Inverness blocked the way in and prevented any tap ups by Hospitals. Andy drew into the house to lie shot and Garek took it out and rolled in behind the guards leaving Andy with an impossible task with his last stone. The game was over and Inverness won the title for the first time since 1987. This is the fourth time that Garek has skipped a rink to the finals of the Province Knock out and he is delighted to have won at last.

David Wright's rink wins Division Four
Congratulations to David Wright and his rink of Mike Tough, Gill Silver and Louis Stewart who have had a great season and have won the Morrison Construction Trophy and will be promoted next season to Division Three.

Well done to you all!

~~~
Louis hits 80!
Louis ended this season on a high.
Playing in the last Province League game of the season on 24th March, he was in David Wright's rink who won their final game of the season and were Division Four winners. He was also only two days short of his 80th Birthday and the club members had signed a card for him and "baked a cake" which was shared with the curlers at the rink.
Well done Louis
and
Happy Birthday
from us all.
Raymond wins the league!
After an excellent game of curling on 26th March Raymond's rink, skipped by Eric, battled it out with Rikki to win the final game of the season in the Annandale league. Eric took singles in end one and two and Rikki equalled in end three with a two. Eric came back to take a one in end four and a two in end five. However, Rikki had no intentions in giving the game away and took a three in the sixth.
With time running out, it was all square going into the last end. Eric, with the advantage of last stone, played a great shot and took a two to clinch the game.
As Raymond's rink have won all their games they top the league this season.
Well done to you all.
See you at the AGM for the prizegiving.
~~~

Rikki has another win
On 23rd March Rikki played Roger's rink which was skipped by John Cowan.
Rikki took a two in the first end and John matched this with a two in the second.
John then took a three in the third, however, Rikki managed to claw back steadily to win 6 shots to five.

~~~
Raymond consolidates his lead
With a 13-3 win over Sheila on19th March 2009 Raymond is well in the lead in the Annandale league.
With only two games left to play will Rikki catch him up on points?
Can Roger spoil Rikki's chance in their game on Monday 23rd?
Will the last game of the league between Raymond and Rikki be the decider?
~~~

Raymond back on top!
After the game on 2nd of March 2009 when Raymond beat Roger by eight shots to six
Raymond once again topped the Annandale League.

~~~
Linda at top of the league
After a beating Sheila by ten shots to one on 25th February, Linda is now sitting at the top of the Annandale league.
~~~

Another win for Sheila
On 19th February Sheila and Louis played the latest game in the Annandale with Sheila taking a one in both the first and second ends. However, Louis fought back and took a three in the third. Sheila immediately retaliated with a one in the fourth. Louis could only manage a one in the fifth and Sheila took four in the seventh to give Louis problems. With time running out he could only take a one in the eighth and Sheila won the game by seven shots to five. She is now on four points, just behind Raymond who also has four points but a better shot difference.

~~~
The Hoskins battle it out
Roger and Linda had a head to head on16/02/2009 and had an interesting game which Linda looked to have in the bag. However, instead of guarding her shot stone to steal a one in the last end and block Roger's draw to the button when she was 4 - 2 up, she elected to try and take out one of Roger's stones at the side, Pushed it onto one of her own side stones, ran out herself and left Roger a take out of the open shot stone to lie two and peel the game.
~~~

Points Competition 2009
The points competition was held on 13th February 2009
and was a very close fought battle with
George Sim and John Barbour tying for first place,
closely followed by Linda Hoskins in second place
and Raymond MacMillan and Eric Peters tying for third.

~~~
Raymond still in lead
On 12th February Raymond's rink, skipped by Eric Peters,
beat Louis by 10 shots to 2 to retain the top position in the Annandale league.
Unfortunately Louis was a player short which gave him an uphill battle from the start.
~~~

Annandale Shield
There have now been four games played in this league.
Linda and Louis had quite a tussle in the second game on 16th January,
with Linda eventually winning by 6 shots to 5.
Then Louis played Roger on the 28th and beat him 14 to 3.
However, Raymond is currently top after his first game!
He won 13 to 1 against Linda on 29th January.
The results table is in the competitions section.

~~~
Club Annual Bonspiel
This was held on 17th January 2009 at Inverness Ice Centre.
The Bonspiel was sponsored by British Waterways Scotland
and
The Ian Cairns Trophy
was won by
Douglas Maxwell, with his rink of Lynne Fraser, Gill Silver and Michael Fraser
Congratulations and well done to you all!
The second place was taken by Donald Norval and his rink of Margaret Hastie, James Greenwood and Ryan Peters who were tied on shots, but one end ahead of the third place rink of Sandy Renfrew, Ian Bremner, Daniel McArthur and Fiona Carter. The Best Losers prize went to George Sim and his rink of Mike Tough, John Fraser and Linda Lyle.
Annandale Shield
between Roger & Sheila.
Immediately after all the games to enable her to update the website.
Thank you.
Rikki wins his last game
On Wednesday 17th December, 2008 Rikki won his final game in the Innes Stewart league
beating Raymond by 9 shots to 3. This, however, was not enough to win the league.
Both Rikki and Louis finished on 8 points, but Louis was the overall winner as he had a greater shot difference.
Well done to Louis and his rink!
~~~

Innes Stewart Penultimate Game

On 12th December 2008 Linda's team put up a good show against Rikki
and came out the winners by 9 to 3.
Can Rikki achieve a good score in the final game on 17th December against Raymond
and knock Louis off the top spot?
Watch this space!

~~~
Dennis Ice Bowl
On Saturday 6th November David Wright's team enjoyed their games
but lost three to Inverness/Moray juniors, Torness & Elgin
and won one against Cairngorm.
They therefore did not rank among the prizewinners.
Thanks to the team for their efforts.
Here's to better luck next year
~~~

Innes Stewart update

On 27th November 2008 Louis was denied a maximum score in the league
when Rikki defeated him by seven shots to six in Louis' last game in the league.
Rikki still has two games to play, can he beat Louis?
Watch this space!

Province Knock Out
This was not a good year for the club in this competition.
Inverness 1 had to concede a game as one of their players did not turn up.
Inverness 2 & 3 were both knocked out and Inverness 4 did not turn out at all!
All teams out in the first game.
We must try harder!

Innes Stewart - Roger and Rikki battle it out
On 4/11/2008 Roger and Rikki had an interesting game with Rikki taking the first end with three shots. Roger fought back and took a two then stole a three. Rikki took a two in the  next end to square the game. Roger only took a one with the last stone at the next end and Rikki replied by taking a two in the sixth. Roger, with last stone, only needed a two to win the game but it wasn't to be and he let Rikki steal a one to win the game eight shots to six.

~~~
Innes Stewart
On 27/10/2008 Louis managed to snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat
by taking a three in the last end, without last stone, and won the game 6 to 5 against Sheila.
~~~

Alan MacKillop Bonspiel
On Saturday 26/10/2008 we had two teams playing in the Bonspiel.
Margaret Hastie, Linda Hoskins, Roger Hoskins and Murdo MacIver played Torness in their first game and won 5-2. They then met last year's winners Loch Ness in their second game and, in a tight game of good curling, were narrowly defeated by 3-2.
Eric Peters, Rikki Selkirk, Craig Taylor and Ryan Peters made a disappointing start and lost their first game to an on form Jim Brown. However, they took a four in the first end of their second game and held onto their lead throughout the game, eventually winning 8-3. They were all absolutely delighted to
win the best losers prize.
Well done to you all.
The Bonspiel was won by Andy Wood's Hospitals Rink and Loch Ness were the runners up.

~~~
Louis maintains winning form
On 16/10/2008 Louis, in a game which went down to the last stone, beat Raymond by six shots to four to stay in top league position in the Innes Stewart.
~~~

Roger Steals the Game

In a closely fought match against Sheila on 24/9/08,
who went into the last end with last stone and a one shot lead,
Roger managed to steal a two to win the game.

~~~
Louis establishes a good lead in Innes Stewart
In his second game in the league on 22/9/08 against Roger, Louis played a steady game and finished seven  shots to four in a game of great curling. He would have finished even furthur ahead if he had not promoted one of Roger's stones into an unattainable position and given away a shot at the fifth end!
~~~

Louis Topples Rikki
Louis Stewart was off to a bad start in his Innes Stewart game against Linda Hoskins when two of his players failed to turn up on 19/9/08. Fortunately Margaret was at the rink with her shoes and a frantic phone call to Roger meant that by the second end he had a full complement of players. With steely determination he won all but one end and replaced Rikki in the top spot.

~~~
Rikki tops the League
On 17/9/08, with a clear win over Sheila Watt in the first game of the season in the Innes Stewart,
Rikki Selkirk tops the league
~~~

Atholl Ice Rink
It was with great sadness that we heard of the closure of the curling rink in Pitlochry in the summer of 2008. The committee will liase with the 37 Club in Edinburgh to see if alternative arrangements can be made for our annual game against them for the Atholl Cup.

~~~
Atholl Cup
On 16th March 2008 two teams and a reserve travelled to  Pitlochry
to compete in our annual competition against 37 Club from Edinburgh
for the Atholl Cup.
David Wright (Skip), Ormond Smith, Margaret Hastie and Linda Hoskins
(Two Wins)
and
John Barbour/George Sim (Skips), Raymond MacMillan, Roger Hoskins and Sheila Watt
(Lost first and won second)
At long last we have won the Trophy back!
A great day was had by all.
