Kinross v Dunfermline Outdoor Bonspiel Thanks to the recent cold weather, Kinross Curling Club was able to make use of their recently refurbished Outdoor Pond. On Sunday 8th February, a rink travelled up from Dunfermline to challenge Kinross. The Dunfermline rink of Rob Stevenson (Snr), Robbie Stevenson, Ian Simpson and Albert Rae took an early lead in the game. However thanks to tactical substitution and rotation of players, Kinross CC managed to take a 3 at the last end to even the game. In the resulting extra end, Douglas Rodger delivered two perfect stones to seal the victory for Kinross 8 -7. More photos within the 'News' section of this website.

Other news Kinross vs Orwell Bonspiel The annual bonspiel for the Gallowhill Cup was played on the 12th December. The game followed the normal format over two sessions. After session 1 Kinross were 14 shots up despite losing two games. The rout continued in the second session with Kinross up in all 4 games. Orwell had even brought along a secret weapon in the form of distraction being their WAG's and John Cullens in his speech for Orwell thought that this may have been a bigger distraction for his boys rather than Kinross! Highest up rink on the winning side (not loaded) and retaining the Gallowhill Cup was skipped by Ross McCleary with Sean Clemie, Simon Dunn and Blair Melville. Photo of the month courtesy of Scottish Curler. Lee is offering signed copies if required (at the cost of a pint!) At the Scottish Province Championship held at Greenacres, the Kinross rink of Lee McCleary, Ross McCleary, Craig Gudm......n, Simon Dunn and Martin Sutherland lost only 1 game over the weekend but sadly it was the semi-final. Well done but equally commiserations. Highland Curling Club. Following a meeting at the Scottish Seniors last February Kinross were invited to take part in a bonspiel in Kinross on the 15th November, competing for Jacko's Jug. The format was 4 four end games and Kinross came through unbeaten. This was despite playing against club member Iain Cormack, his father and mother and son! Albeit his son was substituted for the game against Kinross. A great event and some great chat afterwards. Many thanks to Highland Curling Club. Glenfarg friendly 14th November. The game played in Perth followed the usual 4 rink format. Kinross ran out victors with three wins and a draw. The score doesn't matter, so they say, but it would be unsporting to embarrass Glenfarg. There was also something about a "granny" Province Bonspiel Kinross 13th November. Kinross won the bonspiel being 21 shots up over the two games, beating Orwell into second place on +14. Congratulations to the rinks of Iain Cormack, Shane Johnston, Blair Melville and Jamie Montgomery, and Alistair Wood, Gavin Baird, Keith McLachlan and Steve Kinninmonth.

General News
Season 2008-2009 Opening Bonspiel The Opening Bonspiel was held on the 25th September and the format was the President vs Past President. In some cases the curling was so good it looked as though some members had either been praticing or are just good straight out of the blocks. It was a very close run event with the Past President's side scraping through by 25 :24. The high up rink on the winning side was of course the Past President David Clydesdale assisted by Shane Johnston, Archie Bogie and Steve Wilcox. The aching limbs will come later. Will this lead on to success in the Rankine only time will tell. AGM The AGM was held in the Green Hotel , Loch Leven Suite on Monday 7th April. Retiring President David Clydesdale opened the meeting and presided over the initial reports. He then handed over to David Beveridge as new President. In addition the following new office bearers and committee were elected for the coming year. Vice President:- Alistair Wood, Secretary:- Blair Melville, Treasurer:- Stuart Skinner, Match Secretary:- Ross McCleary. Committee:-Gavin Baird, Iain Cormack, Gordon Douglas, Simon Dunn, Douglas Rodger, Lee McCleary, David Clydesdale. Pond Master:- Gordon Douglas, assistant Pond Master Jim Paterson. The Club have had an exceptional year winning the Province Bonspiel, Blairhill, Lomond League, (11 years in the last 13), Green Hotel League Division 1, Williamson Trophy (Beginners League), Ice Rink Closing Bonspiel, Wilson Trophy, Gallowhill Cup vs Orwell and the Burt Graham Cup vs Dunfermline. Something to dwell on over the summer when golf matches against Orwell and Dunfermline are being played. At the closing bonspiel the Town took on the Country for the Roxburgh Cup. The Country had particularly strong rinks with many pool players being drafted in. Despite this the Town captained by vice president David Beveridge won by 33 to 29 much to the displeasure of country captain David Clydesdale. The highest up rink on the winning side was Lee McCleary, Douglas Rodger, Blair Melville and John Stewart. The game was followed by supper and prize giving with guest Archie Gilbert, presenting prizes and Steven Kerr, ice rink manager. Lomond League The Club cruised to victory over Rothes and with it the 11th overall win of the Lomond League in 13 years. President David Clydesdale skipped the winning rink and then accepted the trophy on behalf of the Club. A great overall club performance with every playing member taking part at some part of the season. Green Hotel League A draw in the last game against Orwell Ladies was enough to win the competition for sucessive years. The game was hard and the team had to come back after losing a 4. Kinross V Dunfermline This is the friendly to end all friendlies. What a night. After defeat last year it was decided to draw the rinks in a different way with a skips meeting in late February. After the first session this approach clearly was not working as the Club were 17 shots down having lost all four games. Sentiment was that the second session players should just adjourn to the bar and save any more pain! That is not the way it works and the game must go on. As they say in football it is a game of two halfs. The second session played their sock off winning all four games, but was it enough? Sandy Nelson lost a 4 at the 7th end but came storming back to take a 6 at the last to win by 11 shots. Ross McCleary however, was doing his best to granny Ian Simpson only to be denied by Ian taking a 1 at the last. Ross did however win by 12 shots. There was a turnaround of 30 shots and the Burt Graham Trophy was heading for Kinross with a win of 13 shots. Congratulations to the rink of Ross McCleary, Paul Baughan, Keith McLachlan and Tom Graham on winning the trophy as highest up rink. Ross also won the Gallowhill Trophy as highest up rink against Orwell. The celebrations went on into the wee sma hours. Kinross represent Loch Leven Province in the Scottish Province Championships 2008. The qualifier for the Province Championship, The Wilson Trophy final was played on Friday 7th March. The rink of Lee McCleary, Johnjo Kenny, Simon Dunn and Bruce Robbie ran out easy victors against Orwell Ladies. Bruce was subbing for Martin Sutherland who couldn't make the Final. Congratulations and good luck in the finals in November. Scottish Seniors At the Scottish Seniors finals played at Hamilton Ice Rink the Club had 4 participants. The winner of this competition goes on to represent Scotland at the World finals. After finishing top of their section the rink of David Clydesdale, Alistair Wood, Jim Taylor and Douglas Rodger claimed a semi final spot. The rink lost out to the eventual overall winners, Graeme Adam. If there is another consolation last years winners and also world champions (Keith Prentice) lost in the other semi ending their 19 game undefeated run! Kinross win the Blairhill. The Blairhill Trophy is run by Loch Leven Province and played over 2 sessions. With the Club being drawn at 3pm and 5:45 it was a case of site and wait. Going into the last end at 9:35 Orwell were favorites but lost a three and the Blairhill. Consolation for the Lomond League! Congratulations to Jim Taylor, Iain Cormack, Stuart McLachlan, Stuart Campbell, Davie Clydesdale, Shane Johnston, Stewart Wallace and Gordon Douglas.

Kinross Oudoor Pond Jan 2005 |
Kinross Curling Club |
|
Instituted in 1668, Kinross Curling Club is one of the oldest curling clubs in the world. In those days the curling took place on frozen fields around Loch Leven, but now Kinross has its own curling rink based within the Green Hotel. However, outdoor curling still occasionally takes place, as shown in the photo above, taken 23rd January 2005. Further work to renovate this outdoor curling Pond has recently taken place.
