Ben Nevis Challenge
Ben Nevis Challenge 22 May. History has been made with curling on the summit of Ben Nevis. 20 curlers reached the summit in excellent conditions and have raised around £5,000 for the Kinross Curling Trust. With such an unusual event money was being collected from other summiteers. The stone was carried up by 5 and taken down by 5 different people and a welcome refreshment followed in the Ben Nevis Inn. The group was made up of members from Kinross, Fossoway Men and Ladies and a few guests. The day started off with past president and oldest participant Gregor Hutcheson taking the first stint carrying the stone. Greg then pushed on all the way to the top for his first Munro. Other first time hill climbers stated that the Ben would be their only hill but were delighted to have taken part. A fantastic day out and effort by all. Should you wish to contribute to this occasion please contact one of the participants. http://www.kinrosscurlingtrust.org/

Results as declared at the AGM see Competitions. Jamie's weigh in. In a little under 3 months living on water and lettuce and adding greatly to greenhouse gases "slim Jim" has lost an impressive 36lbs. The results are clear to see in the photo's below. The president assures everyone that he was looking at the scales in disbelief at the level of reduction!. What this 36lbs loss means is that Kinross Curling Trust will benefit greatly with pounds gained. The new mean lean Jamie will be a powerhouse to be reckoned with on the ice. Great effort Jamie.

50 Years curling with Kinross - Jim Paterson.
|
A bonspiel was held to celebrate the 50 years curling. The event was 4 two end games which were both competitive and great fun. Stovies provided by The Green Hotel set the scene for a great evening. Jim held the bar enthralled with a memorable speech covering his early days of curling for Kinross in such far-flung outposts as Falkirk, Stirling, Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline in the days before a rink existed in Kinross. Clearly, the drink-driving laws were very different then! Jim’s knowledge of curling is immense, and he revealed that he was one of the first curlers in Scotland to see the Canadian curlers introduce the slide delivery, and he was in the forefront of bringing this innovation into the game here. Jim was also a driving force in Rotary curling, serving eventually as World President. He has also served the game at all levels in Scotland, and remains RCCC Grand Match Convenor. The day also allowed Kinross to begin fundraising towards the new National Curling Academy, and participants donated £360 to the cause.

Kinross v Dunfermline Outdoor Bonspiel
Thanks to the recent cold weather, Kinross Curling Club was able to make use of their recently refurbished Outdoor Pond. On Sunday 8th February, a rink travelled up from Dunfermline to challenge Kinross. The Dunfermline rink of Rob Stevenson (Snr), Robbie Stevenson, Ian Simpson and Albert Rae took an early lead in the game. However thanks to tactical substitution and rotation of players, Kinross CC managed to take a 3 at the last end to even the game. In the resulting extra end, Douglas Rodger delivered two perfect stones to seal the victory for Kinross 8 -7. More photos within the 'News' section of this website.

Kinross Curling Club |
|
Instituted in 1668, Kinross Curling Club is one of the oldest curling clubs in the world. In those days the curling took place on frozen fields around Loch Leven, but now Kinross has its own curling rink based within the Green Hotel. However, outdoor curling still occasionally takes place, as shown in the photo above, taken 23rd January 2005. Further work to renovate this outdoor curling Pond has recently taken place.
