Royal Bank Quaich 2009

We had a good afternoon on Sunday at the Royal Bank Quaich.
The match was close with both games being decided on the last ends.
Andrew Muir, Jean Hammond, Iain McLeod and Catherine Hammond. Eventually coming away the victors by 3 shots.
All 16 of us enjoyed a meal afterwards and President Bill presented the Quaich to Andrew.

Province Competition news 2009/10

Province mixed bonspiel. Played yesterday, Peebles skipped by David Baird and John McGrath lost to the presidents/Temple team. The cup was won by Eddleston.

Province Mendick Final; A Peebles team, skipped by Graeme Coulthard, has reached the final for the third consecutive year. It will be played on Thursday 25th Feb. at 7.30pm.

Blackwood Quaich
Blackwood Quaich match was played between Morris Anderson and Val Mahon. In a tight game, with the first two and last three ends all counting singles the men ran out winners 7-2, the result not reflecting the tight game.

The next Blackwood Quaich match was played between Susie Noble and John Hammond. With Susie coming away victorious 7shots to 3.

Should be an exciting last game with one shot between the teams. Skips for that game are Bill Brown and Jean Hammond.

league Result
Hi Curlers.
On Thursday evening the final match of the pre-Christmas league took place between John Still and David Blackstock, circumstances dictating that the winner of this game would win the league.
David turned up with his full strength rink, John was one down (David Baird off on a Christmas cruise) The first 6 ends were very keenly and closely contested, with David Blackstock leading  6 - 5 going into the last end but without last stone. When it came to the last two stones, John Still was lying 4, protected but all to one side of the house. David's only shot was a draw, which he executed to perfection, lying shot and leaving John with a take-out to win. Graeme, John's third chose the ice correctly and John played a super shot to win the game and so the league. Congratulations to John Still and his team of Graeme, Lesley and David Baird.

Pairs 2009/10
Saturday afternoon saw the Peebles Pairs. Unfortunately, due to a family bereavement Bill Goodburn couldn't attend and John Brown stepped into his shoes - many thanks John. A further complication was Iain Mcleod taking ill on the way to the ice-rink - he has since recovered - but that left us a player short. Kindly and bravely Graeme volunteered to play as himself and as Iain , throwing some 60 stones and being continually on the ice - many thanks Graeme tho' it did give you twice the chance to win, certainly no excuse for not finding your weight but every excuse to sleep well that night as I'm sure you did - Thank You! The snow outside, and the shortbread and mince pies gave a very festive feel to the afternoon. As in the league, one of the last matches on the ice was between the two possible winners, Jean Hammond and John Still versus Graeme Coulthard and Jo Jeffrey. Jean and John needed to win by three shots to gain the trophy. Come Jean's last shot, she had two in the house with one of Graemes lying shot and well guarded. Jean failed with the take-out attempt leaving Graeme and Jo as this years Peebles Pairs Champions. Congratulations.
Thank you to all the participants in the pairs.
