Neilston Curling Club Season 2009-2010 News.

Jack Barr Memorial Salver Once again Neilston CC won the Jack Barr with a combined score of 30 - 12 against Barrhead Fereneze. Neilston won two matches with the third peeled. Pairs Final result, and Johnnies Pound Sheila Smith and Ewen Cameron won the Broadlie Cup by winning the match against Bill Ferrie and Margaret Wood 10 - 4. Gordon McMurdo won 'Johnnies Pound Draw the shot' Competition. Pairs Final. Broadlie Cup. The pairs final will be played on Monday 1st Feb.2010 20:45 Ice at Greenacres. Teams in the final are Team 2 Ewen Cameron and Sheila Smith against Team 8 Bill Ferrie and Margaret Wood. Remember that 'The Johnnies Pound Draw the Shot Competition' will be played following the Broadlie Cup Pairs Final.

Openair bonspiel. Neilston Curling Club members took advantage of the recent prolonged cold spell of weather to hold an openair bonspiel on The Snypes Dam, Neilston. Two competitions were held, the bonspiel and a 'Draw the shot' competition for a bottle of malt. Winners of the Bonspiel were Robert Humphrey(Skip), Robbie Wilson, Sheila Smith and Georgie Travers. Winner of the Draw the Shot competition was Robbie Wilson. Many thanks must go to the band of volunteers who prepared the ice, including James R Carswell, James H Carswell and Robert Smith. With thanks also to Forbes for donating the bottle of malt. A wonderfull day was had by all players and spectators. Click on thumbnails to view pictures full size.

Kirktonfield Cup. The final of the Kirktonfield Cup was played on Tuesday 15th December and was won by James H. Carswell's Rink against Bill Ferries Rink with a score of 11 - 9. Greenacres Interclub Leagues The Greenacres Interclub Leagues have now all commenced with Neilston 1 winning their opening match against Between The Sheets 7-5. Neilston 2 had their opening match posponed. The Neilston Ladies Interclub matches continue with Neilston Ladies playing well. Leggat Cup. All matches in the The leggat cup, Autumn league have now been played. The winning Rink was Andy Robinson's Rink of Margaret Wood, Forbes ferguson and Georgie Travers completing a clean sweep with all amtches won. Opening Bonspiel and Autumn League The 2009-2010 Season started with the Opening Bonspiel on 9th September 18:15 Ice. CROQUET COMPETITION The Annual NCC Croquet Competition was played on Saturday 27th June 2009 at Rockingham, Kilcreggan, courtesy of John and Ann Bray. A superb barbeque was laid on for 'resting' players cooked by Forbes and Irene Ferguson. The day could not have been better weatherwise with plenty of sunshine and the hint of a breeze to keep the midges at bay.. Winners of this years Croquet match were as follows:- Winners:- James R Carswell.& Margaret Wood Runners up:- Andy Robinson & Sheila Smith. Greenacres Salver. Forbes Ferguson's Rink of Margaret Wood, John Bray and Gordon Melrose won this years Greenacres Salver with a win over Rink 2 Andy Robinson on the last match of the League. Forbes won enough ends in this match to overtake Rosemary Griffiths Rink 4 into second place, with James Carswell's Rink 1 in third place. Cowdenhall Challenge Salver. On Thursday 2nd April, Neilston played Uplawmoor in the Annual friendly for the Cowdenhall Challenge Salver. Neilston regained possession of the Salver after two years of defeat by winning 17-8.Well done to the two Neilston Rinks. Points Competition Shield Neilston Members this year took part in the Province Points Competition which was held at Greenacres on 29th March. Sheila Smith was the winner of the Province Competition as well as Neilston's Points Shield.

2009 Away day to Kent |
For our annual 'away day' trip this year Neilston Curling Club Members flew down to Gatwick for a bonspiel competition at Fenton's Ice rink in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent. We played our set of three matches after which we enjoyed a buffet lunch before flying back to Glasgow on the Teatime flight from Gatwick. The 'America's' Team won the competition.

Johnnies Pound. After The final of The Broadlie Cup, members took part in Draw The Shot Competition for 'Johnnies Pound' Winner for the third time was Margaret Wood. Broadlie Cup Pairs competition final. The final of the pairs competition for the Broadlie Cup was played on Wednesday 4th February at 20:45. Team 3, James Carswell and Rhona Robinson, were victorious over Team 5, Bill Ferrie and Forbes Ferguson with a score of 9-2. Rotating Skips Bonspiel Competition. Que Sera Quaich. The Rotating Skips Bonspiel for The Que Sera Quaich was the first match after the Christmas/New Year holiday break. The Quaich was won by the Rink of Malcolm Baker, Dorothy Gormlie, Barbara Wilson and Adelle McLaughlin over the Rink of Sheila Smith, James Carswell (Jnr) Gordon Melrose and Forbes Ferguson. Both teams finished one shot up with the winners having won more ends. Barratt Cup. Neilston Barratt Cup Rink of Andy Robinson, James Carswell Rhona Robinson and Rosemarry Griffiths were also playing on 5th Jan. Neilston progressed to the Quarter Finals of the competition by beating Largs Thistle. Neilston play Alternative in the Quarter Final. Kirktonfield Cup Knockout Competition. Won this year by Rink1 Andy Robinson(Skip), Bill Ferrie, John Bray, and Barbara Wilson with a score of 8-5 over Rink3 Rosemary Griffiths, Robert Humphrey, Robert Smith and Gordon Melrose. Auchenames Friendly. Neilston Rink of James Carswell, Bill Ferrie, Gordon McMurdo and Barbara Wilson won the annual friendly by 14-1. Neilston Curling Club has had a very busy week this second week in October:- Leggat Cup. The leggat Cup league last games were played on Monday 13th Oct. Interclub. Neilston 1 and Neilston 2 teams both had handsome wins in The Greenacres Interclub competition on Tuesday 14th Oct. while 'through the back' Neilston won the annual Friendly match against Bridge of Weir 7-6. Kirktonfield Cup On Wed 15th Oct. the first matches in the league section of our knockout competition, The Kirktonfield Cup, were played.
