During 1990 Kelso celebrated IN BIG STYLE the 200th year of Kelso Curling Club.
While the history of the club dates back to 1790 the actual records from this date are not traced, but the references back to this date are recorded in early Minute Books.
Look at origins of the club in “about us” for some later history.
To celebrate the Bi-Centenary the club organised two main events.
The first was a Bonspiel on 9th - 11thMarch 1990 (which was shared with Jedburgh C C who also celebrated their Bi-Centenary in 1990) with 256 curlers taking part. The main sponsors for the weekend were Glayva Who supplied all the prizes and Lowland Insurance Brokers who paid the ice charges.
On the Saturday night ther was a Dinner – Dance held in the Cross Keys Hotel, Kelso, which was attended by over 300 curlers and friends, at which Glayva supplied a complementary Glayva to all who attended.
The weekend was wound up by the Patron of Kelso C C, His Grace The Duke of Roxburghe who presented the Glayva Crystal the to winning team of George Morris,St Boswells; Neil MacArthur, Kelso; Helen Baxter, Corstorphine and L Scott, Jedburgh.
The second event was a Kelso Dinner, again held in the Cross Keys and was attended by Lord Elgin who gave a very interesting, as well as amusing toast to the Kelso Club.
Both events will be remembered fondly by all who attended but particularly by the Kelso members who were proud to be part of it all.
