Welcome to the Border Province Site from President:
Colin Stirling (Lauderdale C C)
The "Grand Caledonian Curling Club" was founded in 1838. The Grand CCC was granted royal stature by Queen Victoria in 1843 to become the "Royal Caledonian Curling Club".
According to a meeting of Deligates from the Border Curling Clubs held in the Railway Hotel, Newtown St Boswells on Monday 21st November 1898, the "Border Province of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club" was "recuscitated".
The following Deligates attended the meeting:
Galashiels, Mr Wm Stirling
Melrose, Provost Turnbull & Mrs Renwick
Branxholme, Mr Robert Greive
Earlston, Mr Geo Mather
Kelso, Mr S Douglas
St Boswells, Mr A Thomson & Mr R Somervail
Selkirk, Provost Roberts
Hassendean, Mr J Murray
Rule Water, Mr R Donaldson.
It was at this meeting that the plans were made for the first "Border Bonspiel" to be played on a pond at Bowden Moor, subject to the permission of the Lunacy Board of Directors at Dingleton Hospital.
We were then, and still are "The Friendly Province" and proud of it!!!!
