Teams Aitken and Jackson have been invited to compete in a playdown event with the winning team going on to represent Scotland at the World Junior B Curling Championships in Ostersund, Sweden from 3-9 January 2017.

The World Junior Women’s B Playdown will take place from 11-13th November 2016 at intu Braehead, in a best of 5 games event. Team Aitken are Karina Aitken (pictured left), Rebecca Morrison, Hailey Duff, Laura Barr. Team Jackson are Sophie Jackson (pictured right), Naomi Brown, Sophie Sinclair, Mili Smith.

The criteria to be invited was as follows:

  • The two finalist teams from the previous season’s Scottish Curling Junior Women’s Championship.
  • The Head of Coaching, along with an RCCC Sub Committee for the competition, may select one or more teams to participate in the Playdowns. The number of qualified teams plus selected team(s) will not exceed four.
  • All teams playing in the Junior B Playdowns must also enter the Scottish Curling Championships with the same team line-up

The two finalist teams from the 2016 Scottish Curling Junior Women’s Championship did not meet the criteria and therefore the Head of Coaching and RCCC Sub Committee selected the two teams who will take part in the event.  The decision to select two teams was based on performance experience as the qualifying team will go on to international representation in order to re-qualify Scotland into the World Junior Curling Championships which are held in Pyongchang, Korea in February 2017.  The team who qualifies to represent Scotland at the World Junior B Championships have agreed to a weekly team training schedule in order to best prepare them.
