This week saw 48 junior curlers from across Scotland benefit from some top ice conditions at The Peak with fantastic instruction from the coaching team of Tony Zummack (British Curling Head of Coaching), Ali Cunningham (RCCC Level 2 Coach), Claire Milne (RCCC Curling Development Officer), Bruce Mouat (Performance Curler & Level 1 Coach), Hammy McMillan (RCCC Curling Development Officer), Michael Goodfellow (Performance Curler & Level 1 Coach), Rachael Hannen (Performance Curler), Allen Coliban (World Curling Federation Development Officer) and Marion Murdoch (RCCC Curling Development Officer).

The coaching team along with RCCC Development Manager Fiona Kennedy provided a packed week of activities both on and off the ice. Ice and classroom sessions covered delivery, sweeping, team dynamics, strategy & tactics, rules of the game and team psychology.

On Wednesday evening, the curlers were joined by 12 curlers from the Performance Programme to play 5 x 1 end games in a bonspiel format. The evening presented a great opportunity for the juniors to engage with World class curlers and receive top tips. It was one of the highlights of the week and RCCC is very appreciative of the Performance Curlers for getting involved with the camp and sharing their knowledge and experience. The winning team members were all presented with an international playing top each; a super prize, with many putting their tops on straight away.

A new activity for this year’s camp was bubble football which was a big hit with the campers. Outdoor activities including climbing and mountain biking as well as ‘capture the flag’ and other less energetic activities including a cinema evening were all included in the week’s schedule. A fun week was had by all with the campers taking their new learnings away to put into practice, and lots of new friendships formed.

A photo gallery from the week is available to view.
