Posted on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 5:30pm

A fantastic weekend’s curling was held at Greenacres Curling Rink with 30 clubs representing their province for the Scottish Province Championship trophy.

After the round-robin, the top team from each of the 6 sections qualified for the High Road Quarter Finals along with the highest two runners-up in the group stages; Dunbartonshire and Dumfriesshire. 2012 Scottish Province Champions Loch Leven met Strathmore in the semi-final which was narrowly won by Strathmore with a score of 5-3 whilst Central progressed to the final past Stewartry with a convincing 8-3 win.

114bStrathmore’s team skipped by Pete Smith got a score of 3 in the first end of the final after a couple of stones were poorly called by the Central team however the Central team fought back well, scoring 2 in the second end, blanking the third, forcing Strathmore to just 1 shot in the fourth end and then scoring 2 again in the fifth end to level the game. There was a guddle of stones in play in the sixth end and with Strathmore lying 3 shots, Central’s skip Lee McCleary attempted a tap up to the four foot which fell just short and Strathmore took a 7-4 lead. Central only managed to take 1 shot in the seventh end and conceded the game in the eighth end when they ran out of stones.

The 2014 Scottish Province Champions pictured L-R are; Robin Niven (lead), Billy Howat (RCCC Vice President), Peter Smith (skip) Alan Chalmers (second) and Graham Cormack (third)

The runner-up team pictured L-R are; Judith McCleary (third), Andrew McAughtrie (lead), Billy Howat (RCCC Vice President), Barbara McFarlane (second) and Lee McCleary (skip).
